Lunch Time Talk:)

We had an early lunch today. Mainly because, we had an early breakfast too. School days we are up bright and early so sometimes lunch gets served early. I print out the lunch menu off of Alexis's school website and put it on the fridge, then on certain days she will buy her lunch, especially on the days they serve, teryiaki dippers. Also on really cold days she will buy her lunch so she has a nice hot lunch to fill her tummy. No matter if she buys or takes her lunch, I always pack things in her lunch pail. I buy those packs of carrots with ranch for dipping, apples, string cheese, yogurt, a hard boiled egg, crackers, chips, goldfish, all kinds of cut up veggies, cookies, etc..I am sure you get the picture. I can't seem to find a thermos at the store,( I have looked everywhere, you think it would be simple to find, I don't want a huge one, I found those, I want a small one to fit in her lunch pail) I would like to send some hot soup on days too. Today, she took her lunch, I made a turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple, yogurt, string cheese, carrots with ranch, gushers and a juice. Tuesdays are her early day, so she will be home shortly after lunch. Today for Little Kevin I made him little pizzas, cut up apple and tomatoes(He loves those cherry tomatoes) and some cottage cheese. I know it is early, so he will have something a little later. He seems to be a grazer. Dinner is normally at 5:00.

What are some things you pack for your children for lunch. I would love to hear what you all do:)

P.S. It is almost Fall~~~~YaY!!!!!!!!!

If you have an Eddie Bauer near you, check out their small thermos/cup. It works for soup or drinks as it seals and it is on clearance at my store for $3.99. I bought several for Christmas gifts. I pack warm soups, pastas, etc. I also enjoy coring an apple down to the last little bit, but not breaking it into pieces. Pull out the core, leaving the apple still attached at the bottom to itself. Stuff the "circle" where the core was with peanut butter and then seal tightly the stuffed apple in aluminum foil. The peanut butter keeps the apple from turning brown in the center! YUM!

I love to make my own version of Lunchables, with cheese, cold cuts (turkey or ham), crackers, capri sun,...also, my kids love go-gurt, homemade cheese chex mix, string cheese, granola bars, nuts or raisins, and a few sweets for dessert...skittles, starburst, m&m's, etc.
Also, I found a great Thermos at Walgreens not too long ago, my oldest likes to have hot soup during the colder months.
Happy Tuesday Julieann!!

Hey Juliann!
I like to make like Hello Kitty shaped boiled eggs (Bento style) mixed bags of veggies/fruits...I have three kids to pack, so I do three different fruits and split them between all three. Pretzel sticks with little pots of p.b. to dip into....Like a previous poster, I also do home-made lunchables. If I'm serving a hot lunch in their pack from home, then I serve something fast'n easy for breakfast, like yogurt with homemade granola sprinkled on it. If I serve a big hot breakfast with all the trimming, then it's a cold lunch, so they always have at least one hot meal before dinner.
Love your blog!
Take extra good care,
Jen

P.S. My eleven year old is now eating like an adult, so I upped his foods by half again, always making sure he has enough protein.

I am on the East Coast and I cannot find a thermos for my kids school lunch bags either, I thought it was the MOST bizarre thing!! I guess it no on soups and spaghetti and meatballs. Bummer on those cold days. Maybe ordering them online? I never did try that, I hate the whole shipping $$ thing. Let me know if you find any.
