Cooking in the Kitchen:) Monday!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend:) As I was doing some cooking in the kitchen I snapped some pictures.

I made bruschetta as an appetizer. I got some french bread and cut it into little breads and then put them in the oven, after they were golden brown, I rubbed garlic on them and lightly brushed them with oil. I cut up tomatoes, minced some garlic, salt and pepper, and added oil. This is how my grandma always did it. You put the tomato mixture on the little breads , it is really good. We always called the Tomato mixture, Italian Salsa:)

I bought some Eggplant the other day, and as a side to my dinner, I breaded it and fried it. This is how it looked...

On the weekends I make big breakfasts. This was one of the breakfasts, Eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and biscuits and gravy.

This was Sunday's dinner. I cooked the Pork Roast in the crock pot all day, with potatoes and carrots, Brussels sprouts and a nice green salad:) I also made gravy to put over the meat and potatoes.

Last night, it started to rain...and then it started to thunder and lightening. I loved it. Here in Cali, you don't get a lot of thunder and lightening, not like we did in Georgia. It is a chilly morning today too, but it has stopped raining. My plans for Monday, is to do a little bit of laundry, cleaning the bathrooms, and doing a little straightening in my daughter's room. Dinner tonight will be T-Bone steaks, I got a really great deal on them at the Albertson's.

Have a wonderful Monday!!!

Happy Sunday!

It has been a busy weekend, a lovely weekend with everyone home. It started to rain a little bit tonight too, love it! Every year around this time, I post this list I found. I printed it out many years ago and have it in my Holiday Notebook:) I hope you like it too!

101 Easy Ways To Decorate Your Home For Christmas

Christmas is coming and you've got a million things to do! We're here to help. We have 101 Easy Ways to Decorate for Christmas. These ideas are all quite simple, but they'll will give you lots of quick, easy, inexpensive ways to add some Christmas cheer to your home.

1. Create a charming display of teddy bears dressed for the season. Gather together three or more teddy bears and arrange them on a table or on the floor in a corner. Dress the bears with touques, scarves and mittens. Place candy canes in their hands or tie bows around their necks. You can even wrap up some small, empty boxes with Christmas wrapping paper to place in the bears' hands.

2. Make simply bows from Christmas print ribbon and pin them to your curtains.

3. Display a collection of nativity scenes from different cultures.

4. Hang a collection of Christmas stocking on your mantle, a shelf or the wall (even if you don't stuff them). The more the merrier.

5. Revisit your childhood. Cut snowflakes from white paper and hang them in all of your windows.

6. Use red and green 3-dimensional fabric paints to trace simple Christmas patterns (like stars, bells, Santas, stockings, etc.) on a white tablecloth. Click here to print out our basic Christmas shapes.

7. Buy a clear plastic shower curtain. Use a hot glue gun to attach Christmas decorations to the outside of the curtain. Don't use breakable ornaments - instead, try small wooden or plastic ornaments (remove any hooks), bows, garland, etc.

8. Dress up your house plants - hang small Christmas ornaments on them.

9. Tie a red ribbon around a tall, slim drinking glass. Fill the glass with candy canes and display on a shelf or side table.

10. Fill a small glass bowl or decorative Christmas bowl with small cones and display on end tables, shelves, buffet tables, etc.

11. Purchase plain green or red place mats and attach Christmas ribbons, bows or small wooden ornaments with a hot glue gun.

12. For quick ornaments, hang Christmas cookie cutters with ribbon. Hang them on your tree or in a window.

13. Decorate plain red, white, green or gold candles with 3-dimensional fabric paint. Draw stars, bells, angels, snowmen, etc. If you make a mistake, let the paint dry and peal it off, then start again.

14. Create a cookie wreath centerpiece for your table. Just arrange Christmas cookies in a wreath shape right on the table cloth. No need to attach them to anything 'cause everyone will want to nibble at them. If you like, place a pillar candle on a small plate in the center of the wreath.

15. Pile a collection of Christmas books on a side table.

16. Purchase an inexpensive mail box. Spray paint it red or green. Use craft paints to add simple Christmas shapes (use our patterns), or attach store-bought ornaments with a hot glue gun (make sure your ornaments will be able to stand up to the elements).

17. If you have a large, bare outside wall, try this simple idea. Cut a Christmas silhouette from a piece of plywood (a silhouette of Santa, a snowman, etc works well). Using screws, attach your silhouette to a short post that you can drive into the ground. You'll want the silhouette to stand right a ground level several feet away from the wall. Position a spot light on the other side of the silhouette so that it will shine on the silhouette and project a large shadow on the wall. We've seen this done with a silhouette of Joseph leading Mary who is sitting on a donkey. It's beautiful.

18. Wrap indoor Christmas lights around a railing or banister. Secure periodically with tape. Be careful to tape down the electrical cord so that no one trips over it.

19. Add color to a room with vases of red and white flowers. Use roses, carnations, mums, daisies, etc. Or, float the flowers in large crystal or glass bowls.

20. Wrap an assortment of medium to large sized boxes with Christmas wrap. Attach ribbons and/or bows. Pile the boxes in a corner from floor to ceiling.

21. Sew scraps of Christmas print fabric into a patchwork tablecloth. Simply cut your fabric into square pieces and stitch together. Hem the entire cloth. Sew ribbon the edges, if you like. Make smaller cloths to cover end tables, night tables, TV trays, shelving, etc.

22. Cover an end table or a shelf with white paper. Arrange cut evergreen boughs on to cover the table top. Place tall tapered candles in glass candleholders here and there on the table top. Before lighting candles, be sure that the greenery is not close enough to catch fire.

23. Use pliers to bend coat hangers into a simple wire-frame tree shape. Wrap a string of outdoor Christmas light around the frame, attaching with electrical tape or duct tape. Stick the decoration in a flower bed or on your front lawn.

24. Hang mistletoe everywhere. Use false or fresh mistletoe.

25. Wrap your doors in Christmas wrapping paper and attach large bows make from fabric or purchased at your local craft store.

26. String a ribbon from one end of a wall to another. Attach the ribbon to the wall (at each corner) with thumbtacks. Clip Christmas cards to the ribbon with clothespins. If the ribbon is too long, the weight of the cards will pull it off the wall, so tack it here and there with more thumbtacks.

37. Purchase a large glass plate. Paint the underside of the plate with gold craft paint. Dry. Place the plate on a table and fill with several white or off-white pillar candles of varying sizes.

28. Make basic sugar cookies or gingerbread cookies. Before baking, make a hole toward the top of each cookie using a straw. Bake and cool. String a ribbon through each cookie and hang them on your Christmas tree.

29. String popcorn, cranberries, cereal, beads, etc. and hang the garlands everywhere.

30. Make some old-fashioned tree decorations. Wrap nuts with aluminum foil; use a needle and thread to stitch a thread through the foil for hanging. Glue ribbon to pine cones for hanging. String popcorn streamers. Make paper chains. Cut snowflakes from white paper.

46. Add a few drops of food coloring to white glue. Put the glue into a squeeze bottle or icing piping bag. Draw simple Christmas star outlines on waxed paper. Pipe glue onto the paper, following your drawn outlines. Dry. Peel glue ornaments off of the waxed paper and hang in windows with thread or ribbon.

32. Cut pictures out of old Christmas cards and create a collage by gluing them onto a piece of poster board. You can frame the poster board if you like or simply hang it on the wall.

33. Wrap a lampshade with translucent Christmas tissue paper. Put the paper on the outside of the lamp shape, overlapping the edges just a little and tape the edges down on the inside. Be careful that the tissue paper doesn't come too close to the light bulb or it may catch fire.

34. Replace your fish tank background mural with a piece of Christmas wrapping paper or a collage made out of pictures cut from Christmas cards.

35. Twist garland or popcorn strings around railings or banisters and secure here and there with tape.

36. Using a glue gun, glue candy canes, side-by-side (standing on end with their hooks at the top) to the outside of a terra cotta pot. Tie a red ribbon around the pot. Place a small poinsettia inside the pot or fill the pot with wrapped candy.

37. Tape a doily to the outside of a glass canister or clean glass mayonnaise jar. Spray the outside of the container with artificial snow. Dry. Remove the doily. Fill the container with cookies, candy, ornaments, etc.

38. Remove your favorite pictures from their frames. Wrap the frames with Christmas wrap and replace the pictures.

39. Make a gingerbread house. They make wonderful centerpieces or decorations for any table top.

40. Use scraps of Christmas print fabric to create quick sachets. Place two pieces of fabric right sides together. Pin a paper pattern of a Christmas shape to the fabric (use our basic patterns). Cut the shape out of both layers of fabric. Stitch the fabric layers together all along the edge, leaving a one inch gap. Turn the sachet right side out. Fill the sachet with potpourri. Hand stitch the gap closed. Place your sachets in a basket by the front door so you can hand them to departing guests (meanwhile, they'll fill your entryway with wonderful scent).

41. Use a child's Christmas pop-up book as a centerpiece. Just open the book up to a desirable picture and place the open book in the center of your table.

42. Hang a large December wall calendar on your wall. Count down the days to Christmas by gluing a brightly-colored bow on each passing day.

43. Tie five or six cinnamon sticks into a bundle using red ribbon. Create a bunch of these bundles and display them in a bowl or on a plate. Or, tuck bundles into nooks and crannies on shelves and table. They add a nice scent to your room.

44. Pull out your old toy trains. Run the track around the perimeter of the Christmas tree.

45. Paint the inside of a glass white to simulate milk. Display the glass along with a plate full of cookies and a hand-written Santa's wish list. It looks great if you take a bite or two out of one cookies.

46. For easy Christmas tableware, tie red, green, or gold ribbons to the stems of wine glasses or the handles of cutlery.

47. To make a decorative cookie plate, glue cinnamon sticks and whole cloves to the edges of a large plate.

48. Cut pictures from Christmas cards and Christmas wrap. Decoupage the pictures to the inside of a serving tray. Be sure to cover the entire surface of the tray. Once all the pictures are in place, cover the entire inside surface of the tray with one or two more layers of decoupage medium.

49. Screw small hooks into the ceiling and hang indoor Christmas lights from them.

50. Print your favorite cookie recipe on Christmas stationary (or print it on a white piece of paper and have it photo copied onto Christmas stationary). Roll each recipe up like a scroll. Tie the scroll with ribbon. Place the scrolls in a basked by your front door so you can give them to departing guests. You could also bake up a batch of cookies. Wrap each cookie separately in plastic wrap and attach one cookie to each scroll with ribbon (string the ribbon through a hole in the plastic wrap).

51. To add a lot of color to a room quickly, use red or green towels, blankets or even scraps of fabric as throws for your chairs, couch, tables, etc. Large pieces of polar fleece make great, cuddly throws.

52. Display colored glass ball ornaments or even beads in bowls instead of hanging them on your tree.

53. Wash and dry half a dozen small jars (it's better if they're all different sizes and shapes). Fill each jar 2/3 full of water and add a couple of drops of red or green food coloring to each jar. Stir. Place one sprig of evergreen in each jar and display the jars in a group on a table or line them up in a row on a shelf or window sill.

54. Use children's bath crayons (for coloring in the bathtub) to draw Christmas decorations on your mirrors and windows.

55. Spray paint the outside of large, clean coffee cans with gold, red or green paint and use them as cookie canisters. Once painted, you can decorate further by using decoupage medium to glue Christmas card cutouts to the cans, or use a hot glue gun to attach small plastic or wooden ornaments, tinsel, garland, whole spices etc.

56. Using a small brush, paint the tips of pine cones with gold craft paint. Place on a rack or piece of waxed paper to dry. Display cones in bowls or vases or attach a ribbon and hang them on your tree.

57. Spruce up plain red or green bath towels with Christmas ribbon attached using a hot glue gun or ironed on with fusible web.

58. Create an easy wall hanging using a piece of sheet music for a Christmas carol. Cut a piece of red poster board a few inches larger than the sheet music and glue the music to the center of the poster board. Use a hot glue gun to glue a small sprig of artificial holly to the top right-hand corner of the sheet music.

59. Create an inexpensive set of Christmas glassware. Purchase a set of glasses or mugs and paint holly leaves and berries on the outside of each glass or mug using red and green glass paint.

60. Dress up your dinner table: cover the table with a plain red, green or white tablecloth and sprinkle with red, green or gold cut-outs from your party decorations store. Or, make your own cuts out with specially shaped hole punches and solid colored wrapping paper.

61. Turn an old blanket chest into a treasure chest. Place the chest on the floor against a wall and open the lid (prop the lid up securely if it's prone to closing by itself). Line the inside of the chest with fiber fill to create the illusion of snow. Drape strings of beads and white indoor Christmas lights over the chest. Fill the chest with wrapped presents or wrapped empty boxes. Sprinkle with gold-wrapped chocolate coins.

62. Create personalized gingerbread men as place cards for your dining table. Use colored icing to decorate each gingerbread man with a guest's hair color and usual clothing. Using icing to print each person's name across the chest of the gingerbread man.

63. Paint a terra cotta flower pot gold using craft paint. Let paint dry. Glue on plastic or glass "gems". Let glue dry. Pipe white glue in a circle around the perimeter of each "gem". While the glue is still wet, sprinkle on gold sparkles. Let glue dry. Fill pots with flowers, nuts or candy.

64. Create an eclectic centerpiece using a large glass plate. Place a collection of containers on the plate. Use small bowls, vases, candle holders, flower pots, clean ash trays, etc. Fill each container with a different type of nut or candy.

65. Purchase inexpensive plain lampshades for your lamps. Use a hot glue gun to attach fabric bows (in Christmas prints) to the shades.

66. Trim door frames, window frames and the edges of mirrors with Christmas garland (secure with tape).

67. Place 1/2 cup of whole cloves on a plate. Apply white glue to the outside of a small terra cotta flower pot. Roll the pot in the cloves so that the outside of the pot is completely covered with cloves. You may have to press more cloves onto the pot in places. Let the glue dry. Tie a red ribbon around the outside of the pot - knot the ribbon. Tie three cinnamon sticks into the ribbon (knot the ribbon around the sticks). Tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow. Use the pot as a flower pot or fill it with potpourri.

68. Decorate with mittens, gloves, touques and scarves. String jute cord from one end of a room to another and clip knit items to the cord with clothespins.

69. Purchase small bells from your craft store. Tie each bell to a piece of ribbon between 6" and 18" in length. Gather all of the ribbons together and knot together at the top. Drape the bells over a door knob so that they ring when someone enters or exits.

70. Poinsettias are a beautiful way to add Christmas color to a room. But don't just stop at one. Create a stunning display using at least six plants - all different sizes. Group them together, larger plants in the back. Tie a large gold fabric ribbon around the whole group of pots. Sprinkle the plants with gold glitter.

71. Wrap a large empty coffee can in Christmas wrapping paper (leave the top open). Place and the floor, add some water and fill with evergreen branches. This looks wonderful on its own, or you can hang ornaments from the branches.

72. Replace your usual curtain valence with a large piece of Christmas print fabric, draped over your curtain rod.

73. Tie bows around door knobs.

74. Create an easy wreath. Tear Christmas print fabric into strips (or use ribbon, instead). Wrap a styrofoam wreath with the fabric or ribbon. Hang the wreath as is, or hot glue Christmas picks, ornaments, nuts, candies, etc. to it.

75. Wrap a table in Christmas wrapping paper.

76. Purchase cork place mats or coasters, Christmas print stamps and red/green/gold stamp pads. Then, stamp shapes onto your coasters and place mats. You can even stamp shapes onto your table cloths and napkins.

77. Cut pictures of people and objects from Christmas cards. Glue each object to a magnet sheet. Cut the pictures out of the magnet sheet. Stick the magnets to your fridge. Visitors can arrange your magnets into scenes.

78. Put some color into your bathroom. Display red and green glycerin soaps, bath gels and oils.

79. Use florist wire to wire Christmas picks to railings, banisters and door knobs.

80. Make a snowman. Better yet, make a whole snow family or even a whole snow village!

81. Wrap your front door in plain white paper and decorate with a large bow. Place red and green pens by the front door and have guest sign the door as they leave your home.

82. Cut pictures from Christmas cards and pin them to your curtains or bedspread.

83. Purchase inexpensive white bathroom accessories (soap dish, toothbrush holder, garbage can, etc.). Paint holly leaves and red berries on the accessories using craft paints. Or, use a hot glue gun to attach bows, sequins, beads, buttons, etc.

84. Create an red and green display in your kitchen using a collection standard food items. Jars of olives, sun dried tomatoes, pickles, red peppers, cans with red or green labels.

85. Quick wreath: Use a glue gun to attach nuts or wrapped candies to a styrofoam wreath. Attach a large red ribbon.

86. Paint nuts gold with craft paint (use a variety of nuts of different shape). Line a large bowl or basket with Christmas greenery (artificial or real), fill the bowl wit oranges, apples and the gold nuts. Add a large red bow.

87. Display a large collection of photos from Christmases past. This makes a sensational conversation piece. Use a collection of odd frames or create frames using colored cardboard or craft foam. Instead of displaying each picture individually, you can create a collage. Use a large piece of red craft foam. Cut photos into interesting shapes (just cut around what's important in the photos). Glue the photos to the foam, overlapping them and leaving a 1" - 2" border of red foam showing. Cut holly leaves from green craft foam. Glue three leaves to each corner of the red foam frame. Cut small circles from left-over red foam (these are the holly berries). Glue them next to the holly leaves.

88. Make a Christmas bedspread. Trim the edges of a large piece of red polar fleece with pinking shears. Stitch a collection of mittens to one side of the fleece.

89. Put a Christmas screen saver on your computer.

90. Paint Christmas stars or bells on the outside of your bathtub or on your shower curtain using washable children's soap crayons.

91. Place a plate full of wrapped Christmas baking by the front door as parting gifts for guests.

92. Remove your mugs from their cup hooks and hang Christmas ornaments in their place. You can do the same thing with spoon racks or key racks.

93. Shred colored paper and use it to line a basket. Fill the basket with red and green scented votive candles.

94. Make a fresh flower garland using red carnations. You'll need a few dozen carnations. Cut the stems off just below the bud. String a length of double thread on a needle (make the thread as long as the garland you want to make). String the buds together by pushing the needle through the bud and out the top of the flower. Tie the ends of the garland together, if you wish. This garland should be stored in the fridge.

95. Decorate with giant cookies. Mix up your favorite sugar cookie or gingerbread cookie recipe. Roll out the dough. Instead of cutting into small cookies, cut out one tree shaped cookie using a knife. Don't bother using a pattern. A hand-cut shape has more charm. Transfer to a cookie sheet and bake. Cool. Cover with icing made of confectioner's sugar, green food coloring and water (no butter). While the icing is still wet, decorate your tree with peppermint candies, M & M's, jujubes, etc. Let the icing set. Your giant cookie can be displayed on a plate or you can wrap up a box in colored foil wrap and glue your cookie to the front of the box with dollops of icing. The box can be displayed lying down or standing on end.

96. Make simple Christmas puppets. Cut Santas, angels, snowmen, etc. from old Christmas cards. Paint craft stick red or green. Attach one cut-out to each stick using tape. The kids can play with these or, you can display them in a vase or a bowl. Just fill the vase or bowl with beads, nuts, candies, etc. and stick the puppets' sticks into the bowl.

97. Wrap your plant pots in red or green foil wrap. You don't even have to remove the plants first.

98. Create a display by your front door with unused boots. Assemble a group of boots and fill them with wrapped gifts or empty boxes.

99. Purchase an inexpensive glass vase (or better yet, three or four vases). "Paint" the vase with white glue and roll in red or green sparkles. Use the vase to display a large collection of white or red carnations.

100. To create an easy Christmas card display, purchase a large red bow that has a vertical ribbon attached. Hang the bow and ribbon and pin Christmas cards to the ribbon, starting near the top.

101. Paint fruit such as apples and pears with egg white and roll in gold sparkles. Air dry on a rack and display in a basket along with nuts.

Friday!!! YaY, It's Friday:)

It is so hard to get a picture of the beauty of the tree with a camera, this picture of the tree, just does not do it justice, with the lights all aglow. Do you see the little elf in the tree, it moves all around the house, it is in a different spot every day. Have you heard about the elf on a shelf? It is cute, the little elf spies on the children to let Santa know how good they are:)

Another pic, trying to capture the lights....

This little needlepoint, I made when I was 19 years old, oh so long ago:)

I am having coffee this morning wit this creamer. In the stores by me they haven't had the selection of Holiday creamer like they have had in the past. This one is really good though.

I got these veggies at the .99 cent store yesterday:)

My table, decorated for Christmas. The nutcracker you see is from my stepdaughter... It is very special to me.

I also picked some pretty napkins to use on Christmas. I am going to fold them and put pretty bows around them for the table.

This is also in my dining room, I decorated with a poinsettia, my snow globe train set and my little bakery house....

Kevin was up north for 4 days and came home last night, so I am very happy to have him home. It was an even busier morning this morning. For all the 4th graders at Alexis's school who had a perfect homework record, was served a special breakfast this morning before school, so I had her little neighbor friend and Alexis and Little Kevin to take early to school, plus it was violin day, so we had two violins, their music notebooks, back packs, plus it was game day, so we had a board game..and on top of that it was also the teacher's birthday so we had gifts to carry also. It took two trips to the classroom to get everything there...LOL.

It was chilly this morning, but it is supposed to warm up to about 69 degrees today. I took out some ground beef for dinner, I will make hamburgers in mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, salad, and I will do something with the veggies I just got.

My neighbor friend is going away for the weekend, so her daughter will be our houseguest for the weekend, she is such a sweet girl and we love having her. I am not sure what the plans are for this weekend, but with everyone home, I am sure it will be a nice weekend!
Happy Friday!

December!

Happy First Day of December!!

It was a very busy morning today. Alexis had a a school project due today, and it was a huge project. My neighbor's daughter is in the same class, so her mom and I all went together in my car, so we could help carry their backpacks and projects to the class. Then after we got home, My neighbor and I had a cup of coffee together to warm up, because it was cold outside. After she left I got all the trash together to out to the cans because it is pickup day today.

After I finish this post, I need to make my bed, and clean the tupperware that I put in the sink after cleaning the fridge out of old leftovers. I was googeling cleaning check lists yesterday and I found some really helpful ones on Martha Stewart's website. I printed the ones out that I liked and put them in my notebook.

For dinner tonight, I am not sure yet, but I will let you know when I decide. I did get some Butternut Raviolis at Costco, so I will make those with something to go with them:)

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful first day of December:) Christmas music is on, and the house is all decorated, it is such a cozy feeling. I forgot to take a picture of my tree last night, but I will do it tonight. Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday:) Last Day of November!

Happy, Happy Tuesday!

I woke up this morning and made cheese grits and sausage for breakfast for the children. Took Alexis to school. Puttered around the house a bit. Then Little Kevin and I took a trip to the Walmart, I just love Walmart:) I picked up a cleaning supply, some stickers for a school project and some teriaki sauce. I am going to make teriaki chicken for dinner, yummy! It is really cold in the mornings, it was 34 degrees this morning then by afternoon it warms up into the mid 60's.

I just love waking up to the house decorated all Christmasy..the tree is just lovely. I will take a picture of it tonight, when I can get a good shot of the lights on.

I have a load of towels in the dryer, and then I am going to wash a load of lights. I have a few dishes to wash too. Then I am going to get to work on other things I would like to get done.

Have a Happy Tuesday!

Happy Monday!!!

Hello! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and weekend. Ours was filled with love, family, friends and lots of food...LOL;)

On Saturday I posted a recipe for Turkey Tetrazzini,(post below this one) I had never made it before, and I have to say it was a wonderful dish. Here is a picture of it. It was a wonderful recipe for use of leftover Turkey. I put the recipe in my notebook and labeled it a keeper for when I need to use up leftover turkey or even chicken.

I didn't add carrots to it like the recipe called for though, and I used a different kind of pasta.

We had a wonderful weekend, in fact we had a great week. Kids were all home, and Kevin had a four day weekend. We also got our tree, it is all put up and decorated. It is so pretty. We were going to wait a little while before getting it, but my husband and kids really wanted it sooner then later. My house looks so Chritsmasey now:) Happy, Happy, Happy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I wrote on my Facebook, let's not say Happy Holidays, let's tell everyone MERRY CHRISTMAS, especially the retail stores that aren't allowed to mention CHRISTMAS. I just can't believe it. Every other holiday that comes by this time year is celebrated and mentioned. I am so tired of the Politically Correctness. It is Christmas, it is about Jesus Christ, our Lord. It isn't about spending money~~It is a birthday, a very special birthday. Jesus needs to be celebrated, not ignored. In fact Jesus should be celebrated every day, and not just Christmas!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay, I have my menu plan for this week all done, and laundry is not so bad since I have been keeping on top of it. My Tree did topple over last night, so I have some needles to vacuum up, but the tree is all fixed back up:)

It is really cold today, so the Ugg boots are on. It is a new week, and a new day and I am excited to start a new week and all that it has to offer being a wife and mother:)
Happy Monday. On the menu tonight, Not Turkey...LOL;)

Chilly Saturday:)

Hello!

Happy Saturday! This morning, I woke up, made breakfast, bacon, cheese omelettes, hashbrowns, sliced tomatoes. I had a cup of mocha peppermint coffee. I was decorating yesterday, but I knew I was missing things. I searched and searched the boxes in the garage and could not find them, then I looked up and saw a box on the rafters. Even on a chair, me being 5 feet tall I couldn't reach, so I got the help of my husband, and low and behold, the rest of my decorations were there~~YaY! So, I am still decorating. I did take a break and walked my mile this morning. I also have to help Alexis make an island out of clay for a school project.

I am going to make Turkey Tetrazzini for dinner tonight:) This is a new recipe, so I will have to let you know how it turns out:)

1 pound elbow macaroni
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large onion, chopped
1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
10 ounces sliced white mushrooms
1//4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 cup whole milk
4 cups shredded roasted turkey
8 ounces shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup unseasoned bread crumbs
2 tablespoons finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
2 tablespoons olive oil
Directions
Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling water until al dente, then drain.

Heat the butter in a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Add onion, carrot, celery, garlic, salt, and pepper and saute, stirring occasionally, until onion is golden, about 7 minutes. Add mushrooms and saute, stirring occasionally, until liquid from mushrooms has evaporated, about 6 minutes. Add flour, stirring to combine. Whisk in broth and milk, then bring to a boil. Boil until liquid in pan has thickened, about 8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in turkey, cheddar cheese, and reserved pasta.

Transfer pasta mixture to a 3-quart baking dish. Stir together breadcrumbs, parmesan, and oil, then sprinkle evenly over tetrazzini. Bake until breadcrumbs are browned and tetrazzini is heated through, about 25 minutes.

Friday!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here is a picture of my Turkey...It came out really good. I have lots of leftovers too, which I am excited about.

I woke up this morning, made breakfast and then put away all my fall decorations, and yes, Fred went as well, we all said goodbye to him. He faithfully stood by my front door for three whole months, so he is in need of a much needed break...LOL. For those of you who don't know, Fred is my Scarecrow:)

As for Black Friday, NO WAY!!! I stay home, I do not like crowds and fighting my way through stores. I got my Christmas decorations out as I put away the Fall decorations, and I started putting things up too, this morning. We are getting a live tree, so that will be put up a little later.

I also found my Christmas plates, so those need to be washed also. I just love this time of year. It is almost 9:00 a.m. here, and I am going to get another cup of coffee, and then do some more decorating:)

Have a glorious Friday. If you are out shopping today, bless your hearts, you are a lot braver then me...LOL
XO

Oh, dinner tonight will be something with Turkey:)))

Happy Sunday:)

I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!! I just love these Proverbs. I actually have them printed out and in my notebook.

Proverbs 31:10-31 (King James Version)

10Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

11The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

12She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

13She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

14She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

15She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

16She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

17She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

18She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

19She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

21She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

22She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

24She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

25Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Turkey Saturday!

Happy Saturday!

We got our Turkey's today, Albertson's had a sale, buy one get one free, so we have one for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas:) I got most of the stuff I need for Thanksgiving, but I still need to go back this week for a few other things.

I also went and bought some new makeup and new perfume..that was fun.

It is raining today and has been raining all day. It is nice and warm in the house. We have a nice roast in the oven and I have a pumpkin spice candle lit, so the house smells rather nice. OHHH, at Walmart, they had poinsettias, big ones, for 4 dollars each, so I got a couple of those, they are so pretty, I just hope I can keep them alive..I am so bad with plants.

Have a wonderful, safe and warm saturday:)

One more thing, did you see the Duggars this week, Josh and Anna, are going to have another baby. Oh, I would love to have another too:)

Friday!

I just love these vintage ads and pictures!

In just a few short hours, Thanksgiving vacation will officially begin~~YaY!!
Tomorrow I will be getting my Turkey. Albertson's is having a buy one get one free.
Starting this evening it is supposed to start raining and continue to rain through out the entire weekend. I love the rain. Plenty of hot chocolate, hot tea and coffee with holiday creamer:) I also have Egg Nogg:::Giggles::: I know that egg nogg is either loved or not liked at all. I love it.

I have my menu all planned out for ThanksGiving, and I have picked up a few things here and there as I shop. I really need to get a new table cloth for my table though.

Alexis's corn feast at school was a success, everyone brought so many fun dishes. I took a bunch of pictures, I will share in the next post. You have to try the Corn and Bean Salsa Recipe I posted a few posts down, it really was good, and everyone liked it. There wasn't any left when I left the party.

If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times, I am so happy to be a wife and mother. Is there anything more satisfying then this? I couldn't imagine doing anything else, and I am so thankful for my husband, that I am able to live out my dream of being a wife and mother!!! I just love being able to provide a clean and inviting home for my family with good food for them to eat that I made:) Even certain tasks that I may not enjoy doing I feel good when they are done:) I love going to bed knowing I have a shiny sink and my kitchen is already for the morning's breakfast. Don't get me wrong, there are some nights were the kitchen is a little ignored..LOL...Like last night, I had to soak my pan, so that is waiting for me to scrub.

Well motherly duty calls:)

Wednesday!

I have to bring a corn dish to school tomorrow. So after I asked on my facebook for ideas, I decided on the Corn and Black Bean Salsa:) All the ideas I got were fantastic, and I will try them all for my family. Alexis liked this one for her class. So this is what I will bring:)

BLACK BEAN AND CORN SALSA

1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 11 oz. can whole kernel corn, drained
1 t minced fresh jalapeno pepper
1 avocado, chopped
2 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1/3 c. chopped fresh cilantro (or subst. 1 t dried cilantro)
1/4 c. diced red onion
1/4 c. fresh lime juice (about 2 limes, squeezed)
1 t. salt
tortilla chips for dipping

Combine all ingredients except avocado and chips. Cover and chill for at least two hours. Add avocado just before serving. Serve with chips.

I have to go to the market and pick up some of the ingredients today, and I also need a few other things too:)

It is chillier today then yesterday, and it is supposed to rain this weekend, YaY! I just love rainy days. Just in time for the Holidays too. I love being home all cozy on rainy days, especially when my kids are home with me.

We are going to have turkey for ThanksGiving, and Albertson's is having a sale, buy one get one free, so I will have one for ThanksGiving and one for Christmas!

Last night with the steak, I made asparagus with hollandaise sauce, rice, rolls and a salad.

Tonight it is either going to be chicken or what I may find at the store, we shall see.

I spent part of the day yesterday cleaning and cutting all my fresh veggies, so they will be ready when needed. I did string beans, broccoli, and I cut up brussell sprouts, they are all cleaned, cut and ready to be cooked.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, the weekend is almost here!!!

Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone has a wonderful day. It is a little chilly out, not too bad though. It is supposed to be in the 60's today. I have a long sleeve shirt on, for some reason, I stay colder then anyone in my family. I will want the heat on, and my husband has the fan on him, go figure. Today was music day and Alexis was so excited to start playing her violin. She needed a binder too. So we went to Michael's after school yesterday and we bought a bunch a stickers with a music theme to decorate her new binder. She was rather proud of it:)

One of my favorite things in my kitchen is my bread machine. I use it quite a lot. I make bread, rolls, bagels etc. I don't cook the bread in the machine, because I don't like how it comes out, so I let the bread machine do all the kneading and rising and then I do the rest. I use my oven to cook it. I have had this bread machine for so long, I can't tell you how many years. It was one of my very favorite Christmas presents from my husband though. I said to him, what will I ever do if this breaks, and he said, Honey, I'll get you a new one...LOL.

These are dinner rolls I made this week. They are so soft and fluffy:)..and they have just simple ingredients...flour, eggs, yeast, sugar, butter, salt, water...that's it:)

I have my Holiday book out, and it it is keeping me on track and motivated~~~ I copied Fly Lady and added my own touches to her Holiday Journal.

I am still working on organizing my kitchen, so hopefully by the end of the week, it will be all done.

Dinner, is going to be beef loin sirloin steak:)

I can't decide if I want to put Little House or the Walton's on for background noise, hmmm...I am patiently waiting for Christmas music to start playing on the radio:)

Monday!

Happy Monday! I have been organizing my kitchen. I want it completely organized by the end of the week. I have to do it a little at a time, because I have other things to take care of too, like laundry, cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children and my husband:) I finished my spice cabinet, and my tupperware. I am going to organize underneath my island today, that should be fun. I have a lot of neat things under there:) On the stove I'm making chicken broth for Chicken and Dumplings for tonight's dinner. The house smells really good.

I found this new flavor of tea at the grocery store; Egg Nogg Tea. It tastes pretty good:) Very Festive:)

I made Banana bread over the weekend. My husband took a piece before I could get a picture of it whole...LOL. He wanted a warm piece, can you blame him?? It was really easy to make and tastes very good. The recipe is below the picture.

(Recipe courtesy of Simply Recipes)

Banana Bread Recipe
Ingredients
3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed
1/3 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup)
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
Pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
Method
No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). With a wooden spoon, mix butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the sugar, egg, and vanilla. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour last, mix. Pour mixture into a buttered 4x8 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. Cool on a rack. Remove from pan and slice to serve.

~~~~~~~
Well, you already know we are having Chicken and Dumplings for dinner, I will also make a salad to go a long with it.
I am all caught up on laundry...and I mean all caught up, bedding and everything. I am going to try and keep on top of it.
After this week, there will be no school all next week, for Thanks Giving break~~~YaY!!!
Have a great Monday!!
XOXO
Saturday!
Today we are going to the music store and buying Alexis a Violin. She will be taking lessons at school for two years. She is very excited and so am I:) Do any of your children play the Violin? Hopefully in the future we can get a piano, because I would love for her to learn to play. Learning to play the piano has always been on my list for me too, so I want to learn too:)
Then, after that, we need to get some shopping in. I just Love, Love, Love Costco! If we buy in bulk, it really seems to save money in the long run. The meat section has really great deals. The eggs, 5 dozen, I can do so much with eggs. With the Holidays approaching, stocking up will really help. Do you like Costco? .....Oh, and you can't forget all the samples they give out. My kids just love going too:)
Well, my coffee is waiting for me, and I have to start breakfast!
Happy Saturday:)
Friday~~YaY!
It is Friday and all is well. Kevin made it home safely yesterday from up north. I had a pasta bake all ready for him for when he got home, with homemade rolls and a salad. He likes pasta bake
much better then regular spaghetti.
(Photo courtesy of Taste of Home)
Okay, today, I am going to go through my spice cabinet, and boy does it need it. I bet I find all sorts of things I didn't know I had. I will also make a list of what I need. A lot of cooking will be going on in this home with all the Holidays coming. Cooking and Baking, and decorating. I just love this time of year.
(Not my spice cabinet..LOL)
I wanted to take a picture of mine but my camera was not charged, so I am charging it now.
There is a radio station here in Cali, and starting on Thanksgiving, they play Christmas music 24/7 until Christmas. I can not wait. I have the radio in my kitchen, since that is the room I am in the most. I have season four of Little House on the Prairie on the TV, for background motivation:) It is early here, and my kids just finished breakfast and are now playing games. Little Kevin is old enough now, that he and his sister can actually play games that they both like and understand.
Have a wonderful Friday.
Tonight's menu will consist of split chicken breasts. Does any one have a a recipe for them, I would like to try something new, tried and true:)
Happy November!
Can you believe it is already November? I hope you had a wonderful October, we sure did. Halloween was great! Now, I am getting ready for ThanksGiving, I can not wait! I went grocery shopping yesterday, and guess what I found??? EGG NOG CREAMER, YaY!!! I am enjoying a cup of coffee with it right now:) They only had two holiday flavors, so I am patiently waiting for the rest of them to come out. I am doing Thanksgiving this year, and I love every minute of it. I am planning my menu already. This week I am doing something sort of like a spring cleaning, but more of a fall cleaning. Cleaning out drawers, cleaning things that have been neglected. Soon, we will get our carpet cleaned so it will look nice for Christmas, and I can't wait to put up the tree:)
My children have a four day Holiday this week, so I am so happy they are all home. It has been quite chilly this past week, and since the time change, it gets dark at about 4:30~~~So I start getting sleepy at about 6:30...LOL. I love the Fall and winter days:)
Well, I have a load of laundry in the dryer, and one in the wash. My whites are in the dryer and my linens are in the wash. I hope to get to my bedding today. My husband was also out of town this week, I am so excited he will be home this afternoon, DOUBLE YaY!
I have also noticed a few of my favorite blogs to read have shut down:( Makes me sad, as for why they left:(
Well, I must get off for now, I have hungry kids waiting for breakfast:)
Last but certainly not least; it is Veteran's Day, I am so thankful for all the men and women who have served and are serving our beautiful country under God. Bless everyone!
HOT!
Can you believe it was 106 degrees here in Southern California??!!! HOT, HOT, HOT!! Well, all I can say is I am very thankful for the A/C, I would not have been able to get anything done in this sweltering heat! Our summer was very cold, and now it is very hot. Well, it sure isn't stopping me from getting in the Fall spirit:) I have been decorating and today I am doing some baking:)
You would not believe the laundry I have knocked out. I am washing EVERYTHING!!...and it feels so nice to get so much done.
Tonight's dinner is going to be something with Hamburger, either cheeseburger pie, or mushroom burgers, have not decided yet:)
For those of you here in Cali, stay cool, for everyone else, stay warm...LOL
Lunch Time Talk:)
We had an early lunch today. Mainly because, we had an early breakfast too. School days we are up bright and early so sometimes lunch gets served early. I print out the lunch menu off of Alexis's school website and put it on the fridge, then on certain days she will buy her lunch, especially on the days they serve, teryiaki dippers. Also on really cold days she will buy her lunch so she has a nice hot lunch to fill her tummy. No matter if she buys or takes her lunch, I always pack things in her lunch pail. I buy those packs of carrots with ranch for dipping, apples, string cheese, yogurt, a hard boiled egg, crackers, chips, goldfish,all kinds of cut up veggies, cookies, etc..I am sure you get the picture. I can't seem to find a thermos at the store,( I have looked everywhere, you think it would be simple to find, I don't want a huge one, I found those, I want a small one to fit in her lunch pail) I would like to send some hot soup on days too. Today, she took her lunch, I made a turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple, yogurt, string cheese, carrots with ranch, gushers and a juice. Tuesdays are her early day, so she will be home shortly after lunch. Today for Little Kevin I made him little pizzas, cut up apple and tomatoes(He loves those cherry tomatoes) and some cottage cheese. I know it is early, so he will have something a little later. He seems to be a grazer. Dinner is normally at 5:00.
What are some things you pack for your children for lunch. I would love to hear what you all do:)
P.S. It is almost Fall~~~~YaY!!!!!!!!!
Monday!
Hope everyones weekend was wonderful! Mine was very productive. I just got very motivated the last couple days, and I am still going. I worked really hard organizing my daughter's room, it is so nice now. Sometimes, I would get so overwhelmed with things I didn't know where to start. My house is never dirty, but the piles of clutter here and there were really getting out of control. Well, I have put all the clothes away. I have a full bag of things I am throwing away, kind of like the flylady, where she says to throw out 27 things, I think mine was more like 47(there was nothing worth donating, trust me)...LOL. I have started decorating for fall. I have baked bread, made a cheesecake. I even have some cans of pumpkin ready to make a pumpkin pie~~~YaY!! can't wait to do that. I am just waiting with anticipation, for when the stores start stocking there stores with pumpkins. OH, and what about all those holiday coffee creamers, and egg nogg, YUM!!!!!!!!!
For dinner, will be steak and potatoes:) Have a wonderful Monday! I am so excited for Fall:)
Friday, September 10, 2010
Happy Friday!
Busy morning!! School, Dentist, Walmart and then Albertsons. Corn on the Cob was only 10 cents an ear:) I am now home, and I am making bread. I also made a cucumber salad. Tonight's dinner with be boneless pork chops with onions and mushrooms, loaded mashed potatoes (box)..and Corn on the cob of course...LOL.
My husband has been in Northern California all week and should be home anytime now, YaY!!
The weather here is really nice, cool in the mornings and evenings and warmer during the day.
I am so happy the weekend is here, I just love having my whole family home.
OH, I bought the Ped Egg today and I have to say it does a pretty good job. My heels were not looking so great. I wear sandals all the time, so I guess it did a number on my heels, but now they look a lot better:)
Have a great Friday!!!!!!!!!
Thursday!
Pumpkins! I can't wait to buy some.
I want to make pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, bread, soup, etc...oh what fun the Fall season is!
I put Fred out yesterday, and am contemplating when to start decorating the rest of the house.
Last night for dinner, I made these Italian sausages stuffed with four cheeses, they were really good. Tonight I am going to do something with chicken. We went to the Costco, over the weekend and stocked up on lots of good stuff. I asked about the mini sweet peppers I bought, and I am really not sure what to do with them, so I have been putting them in salad, and Alexis likes to eat them as a snack. I also bought eggs at Costco, they come in a pack of 5 dozen. I love eggs, there are just so many things you can do with them. My kitchen always has to be stocked, with Milk, eggs, butter and bread:)
School starts next Wednesday, I am not thrilled about that. We will be getting Alexis a new back pack and lunch pail this weekend, and some other things for school. I do love school supplies though...LOL.
Happy Thursday!
Welcome Spetember and Fred!
He's Back....LOLPlease, everyone welcome my dear scarecrow Fred back. He is so happy to back. Everytime I go through the front door he makes me smile. I know it isn't officially fall, but Fred really puts me in the mood for all the wonderful days to come:) I love getting the home ready for the holidays.
I did a lot already this morning. I did all my laundry, but now, I have this huge task of putting them away. I need to bring them upstairs off my dining room table. I can't stand the clutter on my table, so I am going to work hard and try and get it all put away. Then on to kitchen work:)
Oh, also, I bought a bag of mini sweet peppers, and now I am at a loss of what to with them. Any ideas or recipes? My daughter just enjoys eating them right out of the bag:)
Happy Wednesday and welcome September!
