Grits

A favorite in our home is Grits, Cheesy Grits with butter and a little salt and pepper. When we lived in Georgia, Grits was served in many restaurants, especially Cracker Barrel, have you ever been to Cracker Barrel? Loved that restaurant. There aren't any Cracker Barrel's her in California, and there aren't any Waffle Houses either~~~and Chic Fillet, I think there is one, but it is very far away. I remember at the Grocery store in Georgia, like Kroger or Publix the shelves would have a variety of Grits, here in California at Albertson's and Ralph they have maybe one box all the way on the top shelves, sometimes there are two. I always manage to find that box and my family just loves having Grits for or with there breakfast. We mix in Butter and Cheese and some salt and pepper:)

....and don't get me started on Pepper Sauce for the Greens, I have to make my own. We did bring a bottle home with us one time when we were in Georgia...LOL. Oh and one more thing, (maybe two more things)Avocados are served in every restaurant here in California, I don't remember Avocados being very popular in Georgia, even though, they always had them at the store. Okra, can't always find that here either. In the freezer, but my husband loves the fresh. ....and when I buy greens the cashier will ask, what are these again....I always say Collard greens, turnip greens. They don't sell too much of that here, but we buy it up! I love both Georgia and California very much, they are both very different but both wonderful in their own way.

P.S. What do you call that metal thing you put your groceries in?

I call it a grocery cart and my husband calls it a buggy:))

Books

My girlfriend gave me this book all about salads and all the different kind of salads you can make. I LOVE IT!!! I told my husband to go through and tell me which salads look good to him.

It has a list of the kinds of lettuce and on another page it lists all kinds of oils, and so much more. Does anyone have this book? It is awesome.

Then I have two Household books that I just love. Even though it is so easy to just go on the Internet and look up anything, I still love to look through these books and read. They are both by Better Home and Gardens. Do you have have either of these two books?

Last but not least one of my ALL time favorite cookbooks; Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook. If you have read my blog for awhile you know I tend to mention this book a lot:) I got it over 15 years ago from Finger Hut:) Love it!

Homemade Cream Cheese

I Did it!!!

Even though my sourdough starter did not work, my cream cheese came out fabulous!! I will definitely be making this for my bagels. Look at how good it came out.

Here is the cream cheese on my homemade bagels. My daughter ate this for breakfast

This is the yogurt I used. I just got a glass bowl, put a colander that fit over it, and put a cheese cloth in that colander, I poured half the container of yogurt into the cheese cloth, set it in my refrigerator with a plate over the top , and then this morning I got this wonderful cream cheese:)

Some of you may wonder, why I want to do something like this, when it is so much easier to just buy the cream cheese at the store. Well, for me it is just so much fun to be able to make things like this, kind of like an accomplishment of sorts.

I am not giving up on my sourdough starter, I have started a new batch, I am going to do this...LOL

Thursday

Well, I threw out the sour dough starter I had going. There were absolutely NO bubbles. I made the mistake of stirring it with a metal spoon and after that it all seem to go down hill from there. So I am restarting it today and I am hoping it will work, I am determined:)

Today I am making these absolutely wonderful hamburger buns, Crystal posted about on her blog. Hers looked Beautiful and so yummy.

I am going to shred the rest of my chicken from last nights dinner, and add onion and butter and cheese on put those on those pretty buns. I will make some Corn on the cobb a fresh salad with lots of fresh veggies and of course French Fries:)

Happy Thursday
It is always laundry day in my household...LOL

Wednesday

Wednesday seems to be my busiest day of the week. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday I did not get too much done around the home. It was Alexis's birthday so we did a lot for her. Today I am staying put and doing my laundry, making Dinner Rolls, Doing all sorts of things in my kitchen. I am going to also try Deniece's recipe for making cream cheese, wish me luck on that. I make homemade Bagels, so this hopefully will be just perfect, if mine looks as good as DeNiece's. I have eggs boiling on my stove top, I also made lemonade and put some in the freezer in my Popsicle holders. That is pretty much what is going on around here. Last night I made fried pork chunks with cabbage and a beautiful green salad. Tonight will be baked chicken with all the fixings. Happy Wednesday to you!

Sourdough Update

Here is an update on my Sourdough Starter~~~~>

This picture is on day 3
This picture is day 5
....and on Friday it will be day 7, and I will bake my bread. The bubbles were so much in the beginning and now there aren't any this morning. I will keep doing this and if I fail, I will try again:)

Happy Birthday To My Girl!

Today is my daughter's 8th birthday. We spent the day at the American Girl place in LA Yesterday. I made reservation for her cafe lunch with her best friend and their dolls. Her Cousin Emma that she is very close too, came down with the flu and was unable to make it, we sure did miss her. The lunch was absolutely beautiful. The way the table was set, the perfect service, it was awesome and the little girls were made to feel like princesses. After lunch the girls went shopping. Alexis got a new doll for her birthday, the Rebbecca Doll. I took a bunch of pictures of her day, so I hope you enjoy her day at The American Place:)

Easy Sourdough Starter.

Okay, so I did some research on the net and found a recipe that looks pretty simple and easy, so we shall see if it works. I just started it today. All it was, was one cup of flour and one cup of warm water~~I used bottled.

Here is the website, I got the recipe from. You have to peek at this website, tons of recipes on it:)

Sourdough Starter

It says that in 7 days after doing everything I am supposed to I should be able to make sourdough bread. Oh, I hope this works~~Wish my luck...LOL.

Also, I looked at You Tube and watched a few vidoes of how to do it too.
