*Show and Tell*

It is Friday already!

That means it is Show and Tell over at Kelli's Blog.

I have a beautiful sewing machine that my husband had bought me quite a few years ago--and slowly I have been teaching myself how to sew. This is the very first item of clothing I made--a dress for my little girl.. It is a very bright yellow--that I had purchased at Walmart--the whole dress had cost a total of about 3 dollars for me to make including the snaps--I used snaps, because I am very intimidated with button holes. My daughter loved this dress--she is too big for it now, but it will be kept for her for always:)
I tried to get a closeup of my stitching--don't look too close...LOL.

I have gotten a lot better---but there is nothing like your first completed dress!!
Thank you so much for looking. I always enjoy doing these posts. Please hop on over to Kelli's blog and play a long:)
Happy Friday

  1. Good for you. I tried to sew things when my kids were younger, but they always looked like I made them!

  4. Beautiful color too!! I think the first thing I actually completed was an apron. In Home Ec Class....do they still have Home Ec in school. I'm ancient, y'know!!

Happy Show n Tell Friday, and happy new year.

  5. I'm always put off by button holes too. It's a sweet idea to save it for your daughter--perhaps for her daughter?

  6. How great of you to teach yourself to sew!! Love this color! I can see this style getting a lot of use:)

  7. What a sweet little jumper! I never even thought about snaps-that's a great idea!

I too am intimidated by button holes; too many traumatic memories of home economics classes and having to redo them until there wasn't any fabric left. I haven't made a button hole since!

  8. Aw, the dress is precious. I have never attempted button holes. Just reading the directions on how to make them, is intimidating!

  9. I'm not the best seamstress out there, but it sure is fun to have something completed. My first finished item was a dress I made for my daughter. It's similar to yours... no sleeves or buttons or anything else scary :)

Good job on learning a new skill!

  10. I love the color! So pretty.
Good job on teaching yourself to sew. My dad started to teach me to sew and I did well with pillows. He has passed over a year ago and I tried to make curtains. Yi, yi, yi...not pretty. So I have given up. Maybe someday I will be brave and try again.
    Have a blessed day.

  11. ALL sewing intimates me! My Mum is great at home furnishings, and also made me (and my dolls) clothes as I was growing up. I think because she finds it so easy that I struggle more!

Thanks for sharing, and happy new year from Northern Ireland.

  14. What a gorgeous thing to have! And for a first attempt it is just adorable! Finding sweet little things for girls can be tricky (especially if you don't want things too twee, but still pretty!) but your little dress is so sunshiney!

    Happy New Year to you!!

  16. That little dress is so cute! It looks like it would be perfect for spring or summer! Actually, in Southern California, she probably wore it all year long! :) I grew up in San Diego County before moving to Oregon so I can definitely relate to the warm weather.

I did my first sewing machine project for Christmas this year...I made microwaveable rice and lavender bags. They actually turned out pretty well! I'm not so sure I could make a dress though! haha

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  17. Aw, it's so cute and I love yellow! Such a happy color. I'll bet your daughter looked precious in it and I can imagine how proud you were to see her wearing something you made with "love".
    Enjoy your day!

  18. Oh, I remember when I used to make clothes for my daughters! Isn't it fun?? Cute dress. My first daughter's nursery was that color yellow. My Granndmother called it Yallar!! She was an interior designer, and loved loud colors!!
    Keep up the good work!!
New Year blessings to you and yours,

  19. You did a great job making the dress, if you study it, button holes are a blast to make. I was scared of them when I started sewing way back....

  24. This is so pretty, Julieann! You did a fantastic job!! It reminds me of the ONE dress I made last Spring in a sewing class that I took. The dress turned out so cute but I KNOW it's because the instructor was helping me! HA! I am scared to death to attempt it again! How silly is that? HA!

  26. I'm sure that this will be a treasure for both of you. My mom made most of clothes when I was little. I wish she had kept something.
